SCP-002 — The "Living" Room
WARNING: Personnel assigned to SCP-002 containment are reminded that the object is not an ordinary biological organism, architectural structure, or extraterrestrial artifact.
It is currently classified as an anomalous biological structure exhibiting properties of ████████████████.
Do not enter SCP-002 alone.
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-002 is to remain connected to a suitable electrical power supply at all times.
The Foundation maintains the object in what appears to be a dormant or "recharging" state. In the event of electrical failure, the emergency barrier separating SCP-002 from the facility is to be closed immediately and the surrounding area evacuated.
Once power is restored, alternating bursts of X-ray and ultraviolet radiation must be directed toward the containment area until SCP-002 has been reconnected to the power supply.
The containment chamber must remain under negative air pressure.
No fewer than two personnel may enter the area within twenty metres of SCP-002. Personnel are required to maintain physical contact with one another while operating near the object.
This requirement exists because prolonged exposure to SCP-002 may affect human perception and awareness.
Personnel below Level 3 clearance are prohibited from entering the containment area.
Any unauthorized individual entering the containment chamber is to be removed immediately.
Command personnel granted temporary access require written authorization from TWO LEVEL-4 ADMINISTRATORS.
Description
SCP-002 resembles a large, irregular mass of living tissue.
Its exterior has been described as resembling a swollen or tumorous growth, approximately sixty cubic metres in volume.
The surface is composed of an unidentified fleshy material exhibiting characteristics inconsistent with known terrestrial biology.
Embedded within one side of the structure is an iron valve-like hatch.
Beyond the hatch is a room.
Not a chamber.
Not an organic cavity.
A furnished apartment.
The interior appears to be approximately the size and arrangement of an inexpensive residential room despite the fact that no such volume exists within the external structure.
One wall contains a window.
No corresponding window exists on the exterior.
Attempts to reconcile the interior dimensions with the external volume of SCP-002 have failed.

The Furniture
At first glance, the interior resembles an ordinary apartment.
Closer examination reveals otherwise.
The furniture is constructed from materials resembling human biological tissue.
Tables, chairs, lamps, books, carpets, electronic equipment, and decorative objects have all been observed inside SCP-002.
Microscopic examination has identified biological material including bone, hair, teeth, and other human-derived substances.
DNA analysis produces another problem.
Individual objects frequently contain different and fragmented genetic sequences.
No single biological source has been identified for the entire interior.
It is as though SCP-002 does not manufacture furniture.
It remembers how furniture should look and constructs it from whatever biological material is available.
That interpretation remains unofficial.
The Seven Missing
To date, SCP-002 has been responsible for the disappearance of seven Foundation personnel.
Each disappearance occurred after a living human entered the interior.
No remains were recovered.
No conventional biological explanation has been established.
Following each disappearance, additional furnishings were observed within the room.
Items documented after these incidents include:
- Two lamps
- A throw rug
- A television
- A radio
- A beanbag chair
- Three books written in an unidentified language
- Four children's toys
- A small potted plant
The Foundation has never determined where the objects originate.
Or whether the objects are actually objects at all.
Living Matter
Testing with laboratory animals, including higher primates, failed to produce the same reaction.
Cadavers also produced no anomalous response.
This distinction is critical.
SCP-002 does not appear to require biological matter.
It requires living humans.
The reason remains unknown.

Discovery
SCP-002 was discovered in northern Portugal after apparently falling from orbit.
The object struck the ground and formed a small crater. A thick outer shell of rock concealed much of its biological exterior.
A local farmer discovered the impact site and reported it to the village elder.
The Foundation became aware of the object after a Level-4 agent operating in the region detected a small radioactive anomaly.
A recovery team led by General Mulhausen was dispatched.
The team secured SCP-002 inside a large transport container and began preliminary testing.
Three civilians were sent into the structure.
None returned.
The Foundation then recognized the object's anomalous properties.
The incident did not end there.
The Mulhausen Incident
During preparations for transportation, four Foundation security personnel were inexplicably drawn inside SCP-002.
They disappeared almost immediately.
Following their disappearance, Foundation personnel observed several new furnishings inside the structure.
The exact sequence of events following this discovery remains partially classified.

Containment Behavior
When connected to its designated power supply, SCP-002 enters a state described by Foundation personnel as "recharging."
The exact mechanism is unknown.
No conventional electrical system appears capable of producing the observed effect.
The Foundation has deliberately avoided determining whether the electricity is actually powering the object.
One internal memorandum contains a handwritten note:
"We're assuming the power keeps it asleep. Nobody has established what happens if it wakes up."

All experiments involving human entry have been permanently suspended.
Testing with animals and cadavers has produced no useful results.

Books.
Toys.
And somewhere among those ordinary objects are the remnants of people who walked inside and never walked out.

Because whatever SCP-002 is doing...
it appears to be getting better at looking like a home.
