SCP-001 — The Gate Guardian
WARNING: This document represents one of several competing SCP-001 proposals. The Foundation has deliberately maintained multiple versions of the SCP-001 record to obscure the true nature of the designation.
Whether this file is authentic, deliberately fabricated, or one of the Foundation's own decoys remains ████████████████.
Special Containment Procedures
SCP-001 is not to be approached, relocated, attacked, or otherwise interfered with.
Due to the entity's immense scale and anomalous defensive capabilities, conventional containment has been deemed impossible.
Continuous observation is conducted from a secure installation designated Site-0, positioned at a distance of approximately 10 kilometres from SCP-001.
Knowledge of Site-0's exact location is restricted to the Foundation Administrator and a designated Overseer-level observer.
Should SCP-001 exhibit any significant change in behaviour, all personnel are instructed to immediately consult the PATMOS Emergency Orders.
Under no circumstances are personnel to attempt communication or physical interaction without explicit authorization.

Description
SCP-001 is a humanoid entity of extraordinary size. Foundation estimates place its height at approximately 700 cubits, making it several hundred metres tall.
The entity appears humanoid in general form and possesses multiple luminous, wing-like appendages extending from various portions of its body.
Accurate photographic documentation is difficult due to the intense luminosity surrounding the entity.
Recovered observation records repeatedly describe SCP-001 as appearing to be composed of a material or energy state that cannot be adequately classified using conventional biological terminology.
Its identity remains unconfirmed.
Some Foundation researchers have proposed that SCP-001 corresponds to a figure described in ancient religious traditions.
The designation most frequently associated with this theory is:

SCP-001-2
The entity carries a large bladed weapon designated SCP-001-2.
Although commonly described as a sword, the precise physical composition of SCP-001-2 remains unknown.
Spectrographic observations indicate that the weapon produces levels of radiant energy comparable to those associated with the surface of the Sun.
Despite this, the surrounding environment does not appear to suffer the thermal effects expected from such an object.
This contradiction remains unexplained.
Any entity entering the effective range of SCP-001-2 is subject to immediate destruction.
Attempts to attack SCP-001 from outside the immediate area have produced similar results.
The Foundation's records regarding one such incident are partially damaged:

The Gate
SCP-001 appears to stand before an enormous gateway.
The structure is too large to be adequately surveyed from conventional observation distances. Long-range imaging has occasionally produced evidence of vegetation and additional structures beyond the gateway.
Several reports describe what appears to be a vast enclosed garden.
Two enormous trees have been repeatedly identified in distant observations.
The significance of these trees remains unknown.
The Foundation has not officially confirmed what lies beyond the gate.
However, the original researcher responsible for SCP-001's classification proposed that the location may correspond to a site described in ancient religious texts.

The Command
Perhaps the most disturbing property of SCP-001 is not its size, weapon, or apparent connection to ancient religious mythology.
It is its ability to communicate directly with human minds.
Individuals exposed to SCP-001 have reported hearing a voice without any detectable physical source.
The voice does not appear to travel through the air.
It is perceived directly within the subject's consciousness.
The most commonly documented command is:
“FORGET.”
Subjects receiving this command subsequently leave the area and lose their memories of the encounter.
However, there is one documented exception.
The Founder
At some point in the Foundation's early history, an individual encountered SCP-001 and survived.
Unlike previous subjects, this individual did not receive the command to forget.
Instead, SCP-001 issued a different instruction:
“PREPARE.”
The meaning of the command was never explained.
According to the surviving account, the encounter became the impetus for establishing an organization dedicated to locating, studying, and containing anomalous phenomena.
That organization would eventually become what is now known as the SCP Foundation.
The identity and complete history of the Founder are classified under ████████████████████.
Research Experiment 001-A
Foundation personnel attempted to determine the effective range of SCP-001-2.
A D-Class subject was instructed to approach the entity under controlled observation.
The subject was ordered to advance until instructed otherwise.
At an unspecified distance, the subject received a telepathic command.
The subject refused to comply with the research team's instructions and continued approaching.
Communication with the subject was subsequently lost.
Moments later, the research personnel monitoring the experiment were themselves attacked by SCP-001-2.
The experiment was terminated.

The PATMOS Scenario
The Foundation maintains a series of emergency protocols associated with SCP-001 under the collective designation PATMOS.
The existence of these protocols suggests that the Foundation does not believe SCP-001 is merely a stationary anomaly.
It believes the entity may eventually move.
And if SCP-001 moves, the consequences may extend far beyond the immediate containment site.
One recovered report describes a communication received by Site-0 that appeared to originate from a distant future.
The transmission reportedly warned that SCP-001 had become active.
Multiple anomalous events were associated with the message.
The final instruction was partially corrupted:

What Is SCP-001 Guarding?
This is the question the Foundation has never answered.
The gateway appears to lead somewhere.
The entity appears to have been placed there deliberately.
Its behaviour is consistent with a single purpose:
KEEP THE GATE CLOSED.
Whether the location beyond the gate is truly the Garden of Eden remains unconfirmed.
Whether SCP-001 is actually an angel remains unconfirmed.
Whether the Foundation's interpretation of the entity is correct remains unconfirmed.
But one fact is not disputed:
Something is being guarded.
Final Foundation Note
The Foundation does not attempt to defeat SCP-001.
It watches.
It waits.
And somewhere approximately ten kilometres away, one observer is apparently responsible for noticing the moment the Guardian changes its posture.
Because if SCP-001 ever stops guarding the gate...
